Conductor John P. Hagon, former Chair of the Music Education Department at Berklee College of Music in Boston, has served as music director and conductor of community bands for over thirty years. His long association with the Barnstable Town Band, the Harwich Town Band, the Cape Cod Conservatory Concert Band and the Cape Community Orchestra is well known on Cape Cod. Hagon completed a military music career of twenty-one years in January 1997, which saw 18 years as musician and conductor of the 215th Army Band of the Massachusetts National Guard including international tours in Jamaica, Greece and the Netherlands.
During recent years John has taken an interest in the importance of John Philip Sousa, his music and his band; and has led concerts recreating the programs of the world famous Sousa band, both in this country and abroad.
The Cape Community Orchestra, formerly known as the First Congregational Church of Harwich Orchestra, was formed in 1990 to maintain an orchestra on Cape Cod for musicians of all ages who have the ability to read and perform music on the instrument of their choice. The group performs orchestral programs consisting of classical, popular, show, operatic, march and ballet music. Our members come from the entire Cape Cod area and include public school musicians . Although the orchestra is well staffed, we always welcome string players, particularly violists, and occasionally have openings in other sections. Please see postings in Orchestra News or inquire at our email address.
The organization is supported by grants including the Cape Cod Melody Tent and donations received at our fall and spring concerts.
